ABOUT THIS COURSE
Emergencies can happen at any moment, and in those crucial first minutes, prepared citizens can make all the difference. Whether it’s a vehicle accident, a sudden fall, or an act of violence, bystanders have the power to save lives. Our goal is to empower our community with the knowledge and skills to act confidently when it matters most.
The TECC Active Bystander Certification Course, known simply as Active Bystander, is the fundamental course in civilian training for responding to intentional violence incidents and life-threatening emergencies. This immersive, hands-on class is designed to provide practical strategies for recognizing potential threats, responding safely, rescuing individuals in need, and delivering critical medical care before professional help arrives. Modeled after FEMA’s influential “You Are the Help Until Help Arrives” program, this course focuses on methods and techniques for stopping critical bleeding through direct pressure, touniquets, pressure bandages and the like. This beginner course will equipping participants with the tools to act decisively and effectively in various emergency scenarios.
Led by nationally recognized TECC experts, this training will transform how you view preparedness. From recognizing signs of danger to applying lifesaving medical interventions, you’ll gain the confidence and skills to make a meaningful impact. At the end of the course, participants will not only leave with a new set of skills, but also an Active Bystander certification to showcase their readiness to act. Requirements
- Ability to move an individual 10 feet, with dynamic movements, to provide medical care on the ground, in bent-over, or kneeling positions.
- Willingness to have TECC medical applications practiced on yourself and applied to others.
- Wear comfortable, functional clothing suited for active scenarios.
- Minimum of 10 students required for the class.

Recommendation
- Students should take the Beginner and/or Intermediate course, once every two years.
