Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
ABOUT THIS COURSE
Ready for an epic martial arts adventure? XCAL’s Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is specially designed for youth ages 8 to 13. This class is primarily a grappling-based martial art with a strong emphasis on subduing and controlling another person regardless of the other person’s physical attributes. This is accomplished by using proper framing techniques and understanding body movement. Our classes are split into Gi (traditional kimono with a belt) and No-Gi (form-fitting athletic attire), with distinctions between practices in each format.
Gi Required
Gi classes will teach members how to mitigate an opponent’s grips and fight through a deficit when grips are employed. The traditional uniform, the Gi, is needed for the full experience but will not exclude someone from taking the class. Clothing is used for certain mechanics, such as chokes or pins, so it is important to learn how to address these actions. Because your attire will get sweaty, twisting leg attacks are not allowed in Gi classes since the pants do not give enough freedom of movement to our joints to train them safely. Striking and slams will be discussed in classes but not utilized, and our focus will be on using submissions to end an engagement instead.
This class is the perfect way to introduce your child to the martial arts world.
